OUR STORY

At the age of nineteen, owner and CEO Paul Bates worked for his first envelope company for four years through a journeymanship program, here in the Kansas City area. Following that company, Bates worked for another envelope manufacturing company in the area for sixteen years. During his career at the last company he started making parts for the company and did service work for other companies on the side, including maintaining and repairing their machines. Bates also continued to do work with several other machinery brokers, cleaning and repairing their machines for them. His knowledge and experience is what led to these companies solely requesting Bates to do their service work and repair work around the country. He began working for himself and purchased a couple of PHP machines, rebuilt them from the ground up, and sold them. Cutting Equipment Inc. was born.

Bates' idea was to fix the previous problems that the industry was seeing with factory made PHP machines. Those machines were notorious for having lots of electrical and mechanical problems and the lack of service personnel who had the knowledge to fix them. Bates has been in business since 1998, and his shop is family owned, has easy access to major airports and shipping hubs, and is located in the heart of America. With thirty-three years of experience in this industry, Paul Bates' knowledge and experience has evolved through a lot of hands on training, studying and taking various trade schools' electronic classes. His skills and experience are reflected in the machines he builds and refurbishes, and his wealth of knowledge and artistic license can be seen in the design evolution of his PHP machines. His very first customers are still his customers today.

There are three main aspects of Cutting Equipment Incorporated: New machines, complete rebuilds; Upgrades, repairs, and parts; and Consignment sales of equipment. Bates is also one of the top trouble-shooting machine specialists in the industry and can often listen to a machine and know what is wrong with it. He approaches his machines like they are finely- tuned racecar engines being built to exact tolerances, specifications, high performance, and reliability. Bates prides himself on his use of quality materials. Only the finest quality materials are used in parts and machines for a more reliable and user friendly experience for customers.

Bates' love and passion for the business is what excites him as he heads to work every day.
